Privacy policy

This policy covers cryptoevent.io. It is written to be read rather than skimmed, so it is shorter than most and says what actually happens.

What is collected

When you just read the site. Your browser sends technical information that any web server receives: an IP address, the page requested, the time, a user agent string and, where your browser sends one, a referring page. This is used to serve the site and to keep it working.

When you send us a message. Whatever you put in the email: your address, your name if you sign it, and the content. We keep correspondence so that corrections and tip-offs can be traced back to their source.

When you submit a request form. Where a request form is available on this site, it asks for a first name, a last name, an email address and a phone number, and requires you to agree before it will send anything. Those details are transmitted to the partner responsible for handling the request. If you do not submit the form, nothing is collected by it.

Newsletter. If you ask for new bulletins by email, your address is stored for that purpose until you unsubscribe.

What is not collected

We do not ask for and do not want bank details, card numbers, account credentials, identity documents or trading histories. If you send them anyway, we will delete them.

Serving the site and keeping it secure rests on our legitimate interest in operating it. Answering your correspondence rests on our legitimate interest in running a newsroom, and on your consent where you volunteered the information. Sending a request to a partner, and sending you a newsletter, rest on the consent you give at the point of submission.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site is built as static pages and does not require cookies in order to display them. Where a cookie or a local storage entry is set, it exists to remember a preference you expressed, such as a light or dark appearance. Any analytics or advertising identifiers, if introduced, would be disclosed here before they were used. Your browser can block or delete all of this, and the site remains readable if you do.

Who else is involved

  • Hosting. The site is served by an infrastructure provider that necessarily processes server logs on our behalf.
  • Request handling. Details submitted through a request form are passed to the partner that fulfils the request. That partner is a separate controller of the data from the moment it receives it, and its own policy governs what happens next.
  • Email. Messages to the newsroom address are handled by our email provider.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share reader correspondence with the platforms we write about.

Retention

Server logs are kept for a short operational period and then discarded. Correspondence is kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period afterwards so that an old correction can be traced. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive a copy in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what was done before you withdrew it.

Write to [email protected] with "privacy" in the subject line. We will ask enough to be sure you are the person the data concerns, and no more than that. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Children

This site is not intended for people under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the modified date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be described in the text rather than slipped in.
