Contact
There is one address for the whole desk: [email protected]. It reaches the three of us. We read everything and answer what we can, though a small newsroom cannot promise a reply to every message.
Suggesting a name
If a platform name has been put in front of you and you cannot find anything solid about it, send it over. The useful things to include:
- The exact name as it was written to you, including any punctuation or stray characters.
- Where you saw it: an advertisement, a message, a video, an article, a phone call.
- A link or a screenshot of the page, if you still have one. Promotional pages are taken down quickly and a screenshot may be the only copy left.
You do not need to be a customer, and you do not need to have lost anything. Most names in our queue arrived from people who were merely suspicious.
Sending a correction
If something in a bulletin is wrong, tell us which sentence and what the document says instead. Corrections that come with a register entry, a filing, a court document or a dated archive link are acted on quickly. Corrections that assert a fact without a source take longer, because we have to find the source ourselves before we can change anything.
We correct in place, in the text, with a note describing the change. We do not delete bulletins to settle a complaint.
Right of reply
If you operate a platform we have written about, the fastest route to a changed file is documentation. Send the register entry, the licence number as it appears in the supervisor's database, or the company filing, and we will check it and rewrite the bulletin to match what we find.
Statements without documents can be published as your position, quoted and attributed, but they will not change a verdict on their own. That is the same standard we apply to everyone, including ourselves.
Reporting a loss
We are a newsroom and we cannot recover money, freeze accounts or intervene with a platform on your behalf. If money has gone, the people who can act are your bank or card issuer, the financial supervisor in your own country, and the police. Contact them first, then tell us if you want the case reflected in a bulletin.
Please do not send us bank details, card numbers, passwords, identity documents or trading account credentials. We do not need them and we do not want to hold them.
Privacy and data requests
Requests about personal data, including access, correction and deletion, go to the same address with "privacy" in the subject line. What we collect and how it is handled is set out on the privacy policy page.
Press
Journalists writing about this category are welcome to ask what we found on a given name and how we found it. We share method and sources; we do not share reader correspondence.
