African Hip Hop Artist Davido ‘Thinking of Starting a Bitcoin Trading Company’ – Emerging Markets Bitcoin News
Popular Nigerian hip-hop artist Davido has generated a lot of interest in crypto assets after he revealed in a tweet that he plans to start a bitcoin trading company. With a short tweet, Davido is the latest African celebrity to express interest in starting a cryptocurrency business. Senegalese singer Akon is another prominent African personality interested in crypto assets.
Prior to this tweet, Davido revealed in October 2020 that he had partnered with Bitsika, a Ghanaian crypto payment company. As part of the deal with Bitsika, Davido, who has more than 8 million followers on Twitter and Instagram, will promote the cryptocurrency company’s app. After the launch of the arrangement, it soon became clear that the influence of the Nigerian singer caused a huge spike in traffic on the Bitsik platform.
Similarly, crypto players in Nigeria expect Davido’s tweet to have a similar effect on the country’s digital asset sector. This view is shared by Chiagozi Iwu, CEO of Naijacryptos, a cryptocurrency exchange. Iwu also believes that the growing bitcoin trend in Nigeria was probably the trigger for Davido’s tweet.
Meanwhile, Yves reveals why this tweet could be so important for adoption.
Crypto influencers in Nigeria have a maximum of 40,000 followers, while Davido has millions of followers on various channels.
According to the Naijacryptos CEO, this means that more people are likely to see or hear about bitcoin from mainstream personalities than from mainstream crypto influencers.
On social media, some of the singer’s millions of followers took offense to the message. Some have tried to sell their crypto certificates, while others still seem ignorant.
